Langkofel Group

The Langkofelgruppe in the afterglow.

The Langkofelgruppe is a mountain massif of the western Dolomites. It is located between Val Gardena ( in the north) and Val di Fassa ( in the south), as well as the Sella Massif ( in the East), the Rose Garden ( in the southwest ) and the Sciliar group ( in the west). Northwest of the Langkofelgruppe is the Alpe di Siusi The highest elevation is the eponymous Sasso Lungo with a height of 3181 meters. The peaks of the Langkofelgruppe form a circular arc, which only opens to the northwest, and thus has a kind of courtyard in its entirety.

Geology

The result is the area in the Early Triassic Period ( about 230 million years ago) as a coral reef in tropical shallow sea, which could be formed on the outside of the reef hard limestone, while the rock inside remained fragile and after the rising of the mountains could be washed out quickly. Conserves the mountain chain from (clockwise) Sasso Lungo, Langkofeleck, five fingertip Grohmannspitze, Innerkofler Tower, Zahnkofel and Sasso Piatto.

Touristic development

In the summer performs a standing gondola from the Sella Pass into the Langkofelscharte the refuge Toni Demetz. From there, it will help ensure the Sasso Lungo ( about Rifugio Vicenza, Confinböden and Emilio Comici hut), and the Sasso Piatto (via Rifugio Vicenza, Plattkofelhütte and Friedrich -August- way ) walk around on trails. The Plattkofel is from Langkofelkar reachable via ferrata developed as Oskar -Schuster riser and the Plattkofelhütte on the steep western flank (here without climbing). Of the Langkofelabstürzen towards the Passo Sella extends the rockfall area of the "stone city ", notable primarily for its rich flora.

In winter, are located at the foot of the ski areas Langkofelgruppe Col Rodella ( at Passo Sella ), Plan de Gralba, Ciampinoi ( with the famous Saslong World Cup downhill ) and Monte Pana / Mont de Sëura. Even the famous Sella Ronda, a circumnavigation of the Sella Group on ski slopes clockwise or counter clockwise direction, these slopes served.
