Langmuir (unit)

Langmuir ( unit symbol: L) is an obsolete unit of physical dose D in the surface chemistry. It is named after Irving Langmuir, who was active in this area. The Langmuir does not belong to the International System of Units and is in Germany no legal unit of measurement.

Because the dose D in the surface chemistry of a size of the dimension " pressure times time ", all products of a printing unit and a time unit can be used as a unit for them. Langmuir is the special name for the product of the obsolete pressure unit torr and the microsecond. With a sticking coefficient of 1 corresponds to approximately 1 L of a covering of a surface with a monolayer of the adsorbate.

Conversion: 1 L = 1 torr · microseconds about 133 Pa · 10-6 s = 1.33 · 10-6 mbar · s
