Langreo

Langreo ( Asturian Llangreu ) is a city in the northern Spanish autonomous community of Asturias, a Concejo ( in Asturias and Galicia match Concejos the municipios in the rest of Spain) is called borough. Langreo has 43 070 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) and a size of 83 km ². The place consists of several parishes ( districts ), of which La Felguera with 22,000 inhabitants and Sama are the most important, with 12,000 inhabitants. The Río Nalón flows through Langreo.

History

To the Middle Ages

Langreos foundation goes well back to the Romans, they had built here a major road to transport the minerals produced. There are still bridges, and fragments of the road, which are used to today. Two forts, Pico Castiello in Ciaño and in Riano were built around this road to protect. 857, Ordoño I. gave the church to the Archdiocese of Oviedo, the name of Langueyo was first mentioned. the Archdiocese donated to the community then the churches ( Iglesias) Santa Eulalia, San Cosme and San Damián (probably to appease even the banging their influence trading houses ). 1075, rose Alfonso VI. new taxes, which is also the Archdiocese of Oviedo ( and thus its communities ) concerned; The unloved Queen Urraca confirmed these taxes. During the Spanish War of Independence, the community was reflected and transmitted marshland. French troops burned the San Lorenzo del Puente Church. During the Carlistenaufstände burned down in 1874, the entire city archive. In the 18th century, Langreo joined the " minefield " ( Cuenca Mineras Asturianas - a composite of the mining communities operated ) at. Geology

Land

Limestone and shale are the dominant rock formations. The mountain ranges of the Sierra de la Rondiz are typical of this part of Asturias.

Rivers and Lakes

The Rio Candin and the Rio Villar are the largest rivers in the municipality. The Rio Villar is also a natural border with the neighboring municipality of San Martín del Rey Aurelio.

Economy

The agriculture focuses on the cultivation of wheat, hemp and fruit. Langreo and the region of the " mine belt" ( Cuenca Mineras ) has important coal and iron mines, steel industry and factories for the manufacture of linen are still the largest employer in the community.
