Lanín

The volcano Lanín in 1997

The Volcán Lanín on the border of Argentina to Chile is an extinct stratovolcano in the Andes, about 50 km north of San Martín de Los Andes. It is located in the National Park Lanín ( the Chilean part located in National Park Villarrica ) and is due to its resemblance to Mount Fuji as the most beautiful mountain in Argentina. The name comes from the Mapuche language and means something like " smothered ". You can climb the volcano either side of the south (Lago Paimun ) or from the north (Lake Tromen ). The volcano is depicted on the flag and the coat of arms of the province of Neuquén.
