Lanivtsi

Laniwzi (Ukrainian Ланівці; Russian Лановцы / Lanowzy, Polish Łanow [i ] ce, German Lanowitz ) is a small town in western Ukraine. It is the center of the Rajons same name in the Ternopil and from the river Schyrak ( Жирак ) flowing through it. The population is approximately 8,300 (2006). For the municipality include next to the town nor the villages Wolyzja ( Волиця ), Mali Kuskiwzi ( Малі Кусківці ) and Oryschkiwzi ( Оришківці ).

History

Was first mentioned in writing in 1444 Laniwzi After the third partition of Poland in 1795 it fell to Russia, from 1919 to 1939 it belonged to Poland and since the end of World War II to the Ukrainian Soviet Republic.; In 1956 it received the status of an urban-type settlement.

Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union Laniwzi part of independent Ukraine and was charged by the Verkhovna Rada in 2001 with the rank of city Rajonzentrums.
