The first station in Lankwitz was opened on 1 December 1895 by the firm of August Contribute break joke, then still as a remote station Lankwitz Victoria Street north of the present Leonorenstraße ( to 1937 Victoria Street ). On September 30, 1899, the station was renamed in Lankwitz. Shortly thereafter, the route was moved to high altitude and expanded to four tracks, while the station was south of the Leonorenstraße rebuilt in its present high position and opened in 1901. In Lankwitz since then kept only the suburban trains. The suburban railway was electrified in 1903 as the first track in Berlin and in 1929 converted to 750 volts DC, which is still used to this day system of the Berlin S-Bahn.

The destroyed in World War II bridge over the Teltow Canal was built only single track again. This created on August 17, 1945, a single-track section between the stations Lankwitz and south end. The bridge over the Leonorenstraße was demolished.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the importance of the distance grew. It was re-opened after renovation work on 28 May 1995. Until the introduction of Zugfahrerselbstabfertigung (ZAT ) of the S-Bahn station was far produced by the staff of the station south end.

The Lankwitz station is provided as a planned interchange between the S-Bahn and the possibly to be extended metro line 9. Due to the financial situation of the city, however, no long-term realization is expected.
