Lannion

Lannion ( Lannuon Breton ) is a commune with 19,920 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ). It is located in the Brittany region and in the department of Côtes- d'Armor. Lannion is the capital of the arrondissement and canton of Lannion Lannion.

Geography

The city is situated on the banks of the river Léguer, which flows below the town in about a nine-kilometer estuary in the English Channel.

Breton

  • The Ya d' ar Brezhoneg Charter was voted on by the City Council October 23, 2006.
  • At Back to School 2008 362 students ( 5.32 % of total students) were enrolled in the bilingual program.

Economy and infrastructure

The airport Lannion -Côte de Granit is located four kilometers northwest of Lannion. The place is also one of the country points for the transatlantic Apollo fiber optic cable.
