Lapel

The reverse, also serve or flap, is the whipped outward upper front edge of a jacket, coat or blazer.

The collar goes around the neck and is characterized by an ever downward -facing seam, the seam Crochet or mirror, connected to the lapel, so that the front is closed. Collar and lapels together form the shape. Follow the lapel of Crochetnaht and has the lapel top to bottom, then a sharp Crochet - angle and one speaks of a notch lapel. Increases the lapel at the apex of the Crochet - angle with facing up to peak lapel, one speaks of a peaked lapel. Even today, there is an intermediate form, the so-called broken lapel, which has a very shallow angle up or down has the Crochet outward ( Crocheteck, Crochetwinkel ).

The contrast to the lapel is the shawl collar without gradation or incision between lapel and collar.

Under Ulster Lapel refers to a large notch lapel with a rolled lapel break, that is, the reverse break is not sharp-edged.

During the Biedermeier additional lapel corners were common.
