Laplace number

The Laplace number (symbol: La) is a named after the French mathematician Pierre- Simon Laplace dimensionless parameter. It is used in fluid dynamics and represents the ratio of surface tension to the pulse in the liquid

The individual symbols stand for the following sizes:

  • σ = surface tension
  • - Characteristic density of the use case (eg, in SI units kg / m3) ).
  • - Characteristic length of the use case (eg, in SI units m),
  • - Typical dynamic viscosity of the application of the case ( for example in SI units of kg / ( s · m)),

The Laplace number corresponds to the inverse square of the Ohnesorge number and is equal to the Suratman number.
