Laramie [ lerəmi ː ] is the third largest city in the U.S. state of Wyoming and is located in the southeastern part of the state. It is the county seat of Albany County. Their population was in 2006 according to official estimates 25 688 and it had a population density of 891.9 inhabitants per km ².

History

The city founded in 1868, was named after the French-Canadian trapper Jacques La Ramee.

Geography

Laramie is located on the railway line of the Union Pacific. The time zone is in winter Mountain Standard Time ( MST), in the summer Mountain Daylight Saving Time (MDT ).

Education

In Laramie has the only University of Wyoming, University of Wyoming ( UW), their headquarters, where about 10,000 students in 2005 were enrolled.

Others

Laramie came in 1998 in the international headlines, as there, the student Matthew Shepard homophobia ( heterosexism ) was severely beaten and died as a result.
