Lärbro Church

The Church of Larbro is a country church on the Swedish island of Gotland. It belongs to the parish (Swedish församling ) Forsa and vicarage in the diocese of Visby Larbro.

Location

It is in place on Gotland Lärbro 34 km north-east of Visby.

Church building

This Gothic church is different from the rest of Gotland country churches by its octagonal tower. The Church of Larbro was built in stages. The oldest part is the choir and nave, which were probably built in the late 13th century.

The possibly inspired by the Holy Spirit Church in Visby tower was built around 1350. His portal is decorated with figures of saints. The Childhood of Jesus is represented on the Kapitellbändern. In the rest of figurative gargoyles can be seen. The tower had a gallery floor and a high peak. It was heavily damaged by a storm in 1522. Since then, the spire has its lower, today also octagonal shape.

Interior

Environment
