Larecaja Province

Larecaja is one of twenty provinces in the central part of the department of La Paz in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is located on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Real east of Lake Titicaca and is bordered to the north by the Province Franz Tamayo, in the northwest of the province of Bautista Saavedra, on the west by the province Muñecas, on the southwest by the province Omasuyos, to the south by the Province of Los Andes, on the southeast by the province Murillo, on the east by the province Caranavi, and on the northeast by the province of Sud Yungas.

The province extends from about 15 ° 04 'and 16 ° 05 ' south latitude and 67 ° 27 ' and 68 ° 49 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 125 kilometers from north to south 100 km.

83.2 percent of the population speak Spanish, 59.5 percent speak Aymara, Quechua and 19.8 percent. (1992)

68.9 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 83.9 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

81.7 percent of the population are Catholics, 14.8 percent are Protestant (1992).
