Laren

Laren ( Noord-Holland ) ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the Netherlands, North Holland province. It has 10,940 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) on a total area of ​​12.39 km ².

Location and economic

Laren is located in the wooded area Het Gooi, northeast of Hilversum. The former farmers and shepherds village is often residence of many wealthy people who work in Amsterdam and watch TV in Hilversum. For the economy, culture and tourism are also important.

History

The area was already inhabited in prehistoric Larens time, including carriers of the Bell Beaker culture. In the Middle Ages the present village was built around a "narrow" ( Anger) where the Community livestock was kept.
