Large Frogmouth

The giant frog mouth ( Batrachostomus auritus ) is a nocturnal bird of the family of the frogmouth.

Features

The 40 cm long bird is at the top of reddish-brown with white spots and gelbraunen bands. The throat is white and stained the abdomen yellow-brown. The beak has bristles on the bill approach and a huge frog -like opening.

Occurrence

The giant frog mouth lives in rain and secondary forests in Sumatra, Borneo and Malaysia.

Behavior

During the day, the bird resting in the trees. At night it hunts from a residence dating scorpions, millipedes, snails, reptiles, amphibians, small birds and rodents.

Reproduction

In an open nest of leaves and dunes in a tree fork up to three eggs incubated by the male during the day and at night the female.
