Pristis perotteti

Pristis perotteti is a species in the family of sawfish. The fish live in the Atlantic off West Africa, Brazil, Florida and Texas, the Indian Ocean off the west coast of India and in the Pacific off the northern coast of Australia, usually at depths of around 10 m. They are also found in fresh water of rivers that flow at the above coasts, as well as in lakes that flow through these rivers.

Features

The body of Pristis perotteti is haiartig with pronounced pectoral fins, skin is dark gray or golden brown in living in salt water animals, mouse gray with reddish areas along the spine on his back in fresh water. The head is flat armed with a sword-like snout with 38 to 40 pairs of laterally projecting teeth. Maximum of the fish reaches a length of 6.50 m and a weight of 591 kg.

Way of life

The fish live near the coast in shallow water, preferably in the lagoons, as well as in larger rivers and lakes, there also at greater depths. In Nicaragua they were spotted on 122 m. Despite their size, they are harmless to humans. Pristis pectinata, like all sawfish, ovoviviparous.
