Larry Black

Larry Black (actually: Lawrence J. Black, born July 20, 1951 in Miami, Florida; † February 8, 2006 ) was a former American sprinter and Olympic gold medalist.

Black was a student at North Carolina Central University and won in this period ( 1971) the NCAA championship over 220 yards.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won on the 4th of September, the silver medal in the 200 - meter race in 20.19 s, behind Valeri Borzov from the Soviet Union ( 20.00 s ) and before the Italian Pietro Mennea ( 20.30 s ). On September 10, he won the 4 x 100 - meter relay along with his teammate Robert Taylor, Gerald Tinker and Eddie Hart in 38.19 s ( which they leveled the national record ), before the teams from the Soviet Union ( 38.50 s ) and the Federal Republic of Germany ( 38.79 s ).

He died on 8 February 2006 at an aneurysm.
