Larry David
Larry David (actually: Lawrence Gene David, born July 2, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American comedian, screenwriter and actor. He became known for his involvement with the series Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm! (Original Title: Curb Your Enthusiasm ).
Life and work
David was born in Sheepshead Bay, a suburb of Brooklyn. He attended after high school, the University of Maryland, where he in 1970 earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1971 and a bachelor's degree in business administration.
He then moved back to Brooklyn, where he worked as a bra salesman, paralegal and private chauffeur before he devoted himself to stand-up.
His stand-up performances were not particularly successful, and so he worked part-time as a writer for television series such as Fridays, where he met Michael Richards, who later played the character of Kramer in Seinfeld.
1984 to 1985, he worked for one season as a writer for the popular comedy series Saturday Night Live, but where it managed only one written by him sketch into the program. There he met Julia Louis -Dreyfus know that Elaine later embodied in Seinfeld.
Seinfeld
During his time as a stand- up comedian Jerry Seinfeld, he learned to know, who is also at this time - much more successful - worked as a comedian. When Jerry Seinfeld 1988 by NBC received the offer to develop a sitcom, this turned to Larry David, and together they wrote the concept for The Seinfeld Chronicles series, later renamed Seinfeld.
As Seinfeld went into production, he shared as a producer and writer of the series creative control with Jerry Seinfeld and Larry Charles. He also had cameo appearances and took over the voice of the character George Steinbrenner.
Thus the figure of George Costanza was (played by Jason Alexander) built in part on the personality of David, and various events from David's life found its way into the plot of the series. So he once quit his job at Saturday Night Live, after him his neighbor Kramer (the real ) proposed, but simply to reappear there and pretend as if nothing had happened. For his role in Seinfeld, he won an Emmy in 1993 and was five times nominated for an Emmy.
After the seventh season, David left the series to the screenplay for Jackpot - to write crash in Atlantic City ( Sour Grapes ), in which he also directed. But in 1998 he returned to write the series finale of Seinfeld.
The series became one of the most financially successful comedy series and Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David made them multi-millionaires.
Curb Your Enthusiasm!
1999 beamed the American pay-TV network HBO one-hour special in the style of a mockumentary entitled " Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm ", which documented David's preparations for a comeback as a stand- up comedian. Based on the concept of the specials was then the series Curb Your Enthusiasm! (Original Title: Curb Your Enthusiasm ), which documents David's life as a multi- millionaire and still partially active producer. The story is purely fictional, but is often inspired by real events in David's real life. Although the storyline is dictated by the script, most of the dialogues are improvised on the set. His wife is played by the spectacles pure Cheryl Hines.
So far, eight squadrons were produced of 10 episodes.
Other works
In the 1980s he had cameo appearances in several films, including two films by Woody Allen - 1987 in Radio Days and 1989 in Allen's segment of the episodic film New York Stories. In 2009 he played the male lead in Allen's Whatever Works.
After his departure from Seinfeld, he wrote and published in 1998, has directed the feature film Jackpot - Barney in Atlantic City ( Sour Grapes ). The comedy flopped at the box office and was panned by critics.
In the series Entourage and Hannah Montana, he had guest appearances.
He was co-author of the screenplay for Barry Levinson comedy Envy ( 2004).
Private
David was married from 1993 to 2007 with the environmental activist and producer Laurie Lennard and the couple have two daughters. On 19 July 2007 the divorce was filed.
