Larry J. Hopkins

Larry Jones Hopkins ( born October 25, 1933, Detroit, Michigan) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 1993 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Larry Hopkins attended the public schools in Wingo (Kentucky). Between 1951 and 1954 he studied at Murray State University. After that, he was a soldier in the 1954-1956 United States Marine Corps. Later he worked as a stockbroker for the company Hilliard & Lyons, Inc. In 1969, Hopkins was an administrative employee in Fayette County. He joined the Republican Party. From 1972 to 1976 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Kentucky; 1976-1978 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1978, Hopkins was the sixth electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John B. Breckinridge on January 3, 1979. After six re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1993 seven contiguous legislatures. In 1991, Hopkins competed unsuccessfully for the office of governor of Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1992 he gave up another candidacy. Later he worked as Head of Department in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Today Larry Hopkins lives in Lexington.
