Larry Laudan

Larry Laudan ( born October 16, 1941 in Austin, Texas) is an American philosopher of science. He was a vocal critic of the traditions of positivism, realism, and relativism.

It represents instead a " Normative Naturalism " mentioned position in the (empirical ) science is seen as a problem-solving activity. Progress within an area occurs when successive theories have an increasing effectiveness in solving problems. According to Laudan such a progress can be classified as rational.
