Larry Parnes

Larry Parnes (* 1930 in London, England, August † 4, 1989), actually Laurence Maurice Parnes, was a British music manager and impresario.

The shop and bar owners Parnes in 1956 the manager of the rock and roll singer Tommy Hicks, whose name he changed to Tommy Steele. Looking for a second star, he became aware of Reg Smith, was out of the Marty Wilde.

Cliff Richard was not able to be added to the stable of Parnes. In 1958, Roy Taylor to who was named Vince Eager, but remained without a hit. In the same year Parnes Ron Wycherly alias Billy Fury took them under contract.

Other artists who worked with varying degrees of success for Parnes, were Dickie Pride ( Richard Knellar ), Duffy Power ( Ray Howard), Johnny Gentle ( John Askew ), Sally Kelly, Terry Dene, Nelson Keene, Peter Wynne and Georgie Fame ( Clive Powell ). One of the few who successfully defended themselves against a renaming, was the guitarist Joe Brown, wanted to make the Parnes Elmer Twitch.

The success of Larry Parnes as a music manager, was overpowering. In 1960, he was referred to in the British press as "Mr Parnes, shillings and pence ". He almost became the manager of the Beatles, who were as Silver Beatles some time with Johnny Gentle on tour.

In 1967, Parnes withdrew from the music management and devoted himself to the theater and musicals. In the 1970s, he was the manager of the figure skater John Curry. After a meningitis he retired in 1981 completely out of business. Larry Parnes died in London in 1989.
