Larry Pleau

Lawrence Winslow " Larry " Pleau ( born June 29, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player ( center ) and coach, from 1969 to 1979 for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League and the New England Whalers played in the World Hockey Association. Most recently, he was general manager of the St. Louis Blues.

Career

He spent his time with the Montreal Junior Canadiens in the OHA Junior. 1967/68 he prepared himself with the American team at the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble. In this tournament, he reached with his team to sixth place and brought it to six points scorer.

It was followed by a year at the Jersey Devils in the WHL before he stood from the season 1969/70 in the squad of the Montreal Canadiens. Most of the time he played in the farm team at the Montreal Voyageurs of the American Hockey League. After three years in Montreal, he returned to his hometown of Boston. In the World Hockey Association, he played for the newly formed New England Whalers. He remained the team during the seven years in which the WHA had passed, loyal. Already in the first WHA season, he won with the Whalers WHA championship, the Avco World Trophy.

After his playing career, he was the first assistant coach and later head coach of the Hartford Whalers, now playing in the NHL. For many years he held various positions at the Whalers. In addition to the coaching job he was general manager and coach of the farm team, the Binghamton Whalers.

As vice president, he went after 17 years with the Whalers to the New York Rangers before he took the job of general manager with the St. Louis Blues in 1997. For the 2010/11 season he was replaced by Doug Armstrong.

In 2000 he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
