Larry Taylor

Larry " The Mole " Taylor ( * June 6, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York City as Samuel Taylor) is an American bass guitarist and the last surviving founding member of Canned Heat.

Career

Taylor began his career in 1958 when he was briefly a member of the band Moondog by PJ Proby. The band was disbanded shortly thereafter. At 18, he accompanied Jerry Lee Lewis on his tours, as this is just beginning to recover from his career low. Briefly, he also played for Chuck Berry.

The first successes

The first successes he could celebrate with The Monkees. After his tours with Lewis and Berry, he was hired as an independent bassist of the Monkees and was among others participated in the hits Last Train To Clarksville ( Theme From ) The Monkees. During his time with The Monkees, he was involved in the first two albums.

Canned Heat

In March 1967 he joined the band Canned Heat and one of the founding members, although the band was officially ( according to other sources 1966) founded in 1965. With Canned Heat he celebrated his greatest successes. He has appeared on June 17, 1967 at the Monterey Pop Festival and in August 1969 at the Woodstock Festival. At a gig in July 1969 at the Fillmore East broke out between Taylor and Henry Vestine of a dispute, so he left the band. Also, Taylor left the band in 1970. In 1988 he returned (LP " Reheated " ) and played until 1999 always live and in the studio for Canned Heat.

More career

After Taylor left Canned Heat in 1970, he joined in May the Bluesbreakers by John Mayall, where he remained until 1973. Until 1994, he rarely takes longer for a musician or a band that played mostly as a guest musician and founded the Larry Joe Taylor's Texas Music Festival Annual (named after the country singer Larry Joe Taylor). Other musicians with whom Taylor worked, were Tom Waits, Kim Wilson, Albert King and Little Milton. Currently, Larry Taylor plays the upright bass at the "Hollywood Blue Flames".

Triva

His brother Mel Taylor was until his death drummer for the band The Ventures. After his death, he was replaced by his son Leon.
