Lars Berger

Lars Berger ( born May 1, 1979 in Levanger ) is a Norwegian biathlete and cross-country skiers.

Due to its success both in the biathlon, cross-country skiing as well as he was in 2007, during the races at Holmenkollen, awarded by the Norwegian King of Egebergs Ærespris. This award is the highest sports award in Norway.

Biathlon

Lars Berger began in 1990 with the Biathlon and belongs since 2002 to the Norwegian national team. In the sport of biathlon Berger is one of the best newcomers who ever. This is supported by his three World Cup victories and his fifth place in the overall World Cup in season 2003/04. The strong performance of this year he could not repeat but later, as a persistent lung disease for weeks put him out of action. After a tonsillectomy it seems, despite the slight relapses to have the disease under control.

Although Berger is the biathlon field the strongest runners, good results are rare with him, because he, like Frode Andresen, one of the weaker shooters.

At the 2009 World Championships in South Korean Pyeongchang Berger won the Norwegian quadruple triumph in the sprint silver medal behind Ole Einar Bjørn Halvard Hanevold Dalen and above. In the final season he won the gold medal together with Emil Hegle Svendsen, Hanevold and Bjørndalen.

Berger's sister Tora is also active in the biathlon. Since the end of the season 2007/ 08 he is coached by former biathlete Raphael Poirée and Egil Gjelland.

Cross-country skiing

In addition to the Biathlon Berger is also always at cross-country skiing competitions at the start. In the World Military Championship in 2004 he was able to prevail against the entire world elite cross-country skiing. A first peak in Berger's career was winning the relay gold medal in cross country skiing at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf, Germany. As the first biathlete he could win a cross-country skiing tracks. Despite this success, Berger did not occur at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin in the long run.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, Japan Berger was back in the long run at the start. He was first world champion over 15km freestyle and won together with Eldar Rønning, Odd - Bjørn Petter Northug Hjelmeset and the gold medal in the 4x10 km relay.

Together with Hjelmeset, Northug and Martin Johnsrud Sundby won the silver medal in Berger Season competition about 4 x 10 km of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He also started in biathlon sprint, finishing in 46th place and in the pursuit of rank 23
