Lars Christiansen ( born April 18, 1972 in Sønderborg, Denmark ) is a former Danish handball player who was considered one of the best left winger in the world in his time. With 2875 gates, he is the second best scorer of the national handball league of all time behind Yoon Kyung -shin. In the election of the " World Handball Player of the Year 2002", he finished second.

Career

In the club

Christiansen began playing handball at Vidar Sønderburg. When one of his teammates failed due to an illness, he moved at the age of ten years from the position loop runner on the outside left position. From 1990, Christiansen ran for Ribe HK and switched to KIF Kolding two years later. With Kolding he twice won the Danish championship and once the Danish Cup.

Christiansen played from the 1996/97 season with the SG Flensburg -Handewitt. In his first season with the SG, in which the team won the EHF Cup, he was initially behind the former German national player Holger Schneider only reservist. In the 1997/98 season he was the top scorer in the Flensburg jersey for the first time. With the Euro -City Cup 1999 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2001 followed by two more international titles. In 2003, he won with the SG the first national title, the DHB Cup. Christiansen left in the summer of 2010, the SG Flensburg -Handewitt. In the National Team

Making its debut in the Danish national team on 25 October 1992 in the Netherlands, Christiansen scored one goal. His first tournament with Denmark was the 1996 European Championships in Spain. At Euro 2002 Denmark took third place and Christiansen was elected to the All- Star team.

The trained physical education teacher married in the summer of 2006, the Danish national team Christina Roslyng. After three years of marriage they divorced. In October 2012, they announced that they are a couple again. Together with her, he has a son.
