Larsa

Larsa was a city-state in Sumer, about 25 km southeast of Uruk. The present name of Larsa 's Tell as- Senkereh.

History

Larsa was a Sumerian creation and stood in the 2nd millennium BC under the Akkadian dominance. Larsa was the Sumerian temple of the sun god Utu. 1763 to around 1745 BC Larsa came under Babylonian hegemony. Around 1740 BC falls Larsa finally to the Old - Babylonian Empire. The residence of a West Semitic dynasty was discovered in the hills of Senkere.

Larsa in the Bible?

Often in many of the earlier research, the thesis, Larsa is mentioned in the first book of Moses ( 14:1 ) as Ellasar with its King Arioch. This thesis, however, is outdated.
