Larsen's Opening

When Larsen system (including Larsen opening or Nimzowitsch - Larsen Opening ) is a chess opening.

The Larsen system is one of the closed-end games and is classified in the opening system of the ECO codes under the key A01. The Larsen system is by train (see also: Chess notation)

Initiated.

This understated design of the plans by the White Fianchetto the dark-squared runner forth the influence of the center of the flank. The most common answer trains are e7 - e5, d7 -d5, c7 - c5 or Ng8 - f6. Depending on black counter are by diverter but numerous transitions into other possible openings:

  • After 1 ... d7 -d5 2 f4 - f2 results in the Bird Opening.   • After 1 ... c7 - c5 2 e2- e4 is a rare variant of the Sicilian Defence on the board.

Namesake of this opening are the Danish grandmaster Bent Larsen or Aaron Nimzowitsch. In the well known game of Larsen - Spassky, Belgrade 1970, subject to the Dane with this system, however, in spectacular fashion in just 17 moves.
