LaRue County, Kentucky

The LaRue County is an administrative district in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The the county seat, Hodgenville, named after the mill owner Robert Hodgen, is the birthplace of President Abraham Lincoln. The District listens to the so-called Dry counties where the sale of alcohol is severely restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located just west of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 683 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Nelson County, Marion County, Taylor County, Green County, Hart County and Hardin County.

History

Larue County was formed on March 4, 1843 from portions of Hardin County. It was named after John LaRue, an early settler in the area.

According to the census in 2000 lived in LaRue County 13,373 people in 5,275 households and 3,866 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer.
