Lasgush Poradeci

Llazar Sotir Gusho (* December 27 1899 in Pogradec, Albania, † 12 November 1987 in Tirana or Pogradec ), known under the pseudonym Lasgush Poradeci, was one of the most important Albanian poet.

His pseudonym is both a reference to his hometown, on the other hand, a combination of the first letter of his first name and his surname.

Life

Lasgush Poradeci attended schools in Monastir and Athens, and later studied in Bucharest at the Academy of Fine Arts. During his studies, he came into contact with several Albanian and Romanian poets and writers, what would influence his later work, and published his first poems. These friends also scored Aleksander Stavre Drenova, known as Asdreni, who would later help him in the publication of poems. In 1924 he received a scholarship from the Government of Albania and continued his studies at the University of Graz at the Faculty of Romance and Germanic continue. In total, he spent ten years in Graz. In 1933 he graduated with a thesis on the Romanian national poet Mihai Eminescu.

He spent the next years in Tirana, where he worked as an art teacher at a secondary school. After the takeover by the Communists, he was first unemployed. Later he worked as a translator for a state-owned publishing house, where he translated poetry and prose, among others, Heinrich Heine, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Bertolt Brecht and Alexander Pushkin. 1974 Poradeci retired and lived until his death in 1987 in a poor family. In the summer he returned occasionally back to Pogradec.

Lasgush Poradeci was married and had two daughters. He was buried in Pogradec.

Work

Lasgush Poradeci published two volumes containing approximately 100 poems: In 1933 Vallja e yjve ( The dance of the stars) and 1937 Ylli i zemrës ( The star of the heart ). The first volume contains poems that Poradeci had written in the years 1921 until 1924. In the second volume can be found alongside more recent poems also revised versions of previously published poems. In the following years he published a few isolated poems in magazines. Recurring themes were the Lake Ohrid, love and occasionally also patriotic themes.

Poradeci was no longer creative activity under the Communist regime. His ideologically compliant translations he had described as shit himself he would not post compliant poems in the style of realism required. His work has been marginalized and hardly published.

1978 was published in Prishtina a first complete edition, followed in 1999 in Tirana an edition of his complete works and writings.

Honor

In Albania, streets, squares and schools were named after Lasgush Poradeci.

In his home town of Pogradec, a three -meter high bronze statue was inaugurated in 2006. The statue made ​​to the Albanian sculptor Mumtaz Dhrami.
