Laslea

Laslea ( Großlasseln German, Hungarian Szászszentlászló ) is a municipality in the district of Sibiu in Romania.

Location

Laslea is located approximately in the middle of Transylvania in Kokel Highlands ( Podişul Tarnavelor ). The place is located in a south-facing side of the Târnava Mare (Grand Kokel ). The nearest town is Sighisoara ( about 10 km north-east ).

History

Laslea was first mentioned in documents as Sanctus Ladislaus in 1309, but probably already founded in 1200. It was probably originally the monastery Kolozsmonostor (on the territory of today Cluj- Napoca ), before it so that a free commune of the Transylvanian Saxons in the 14th century was associated with the king and soil.

Population

For several centuries Großlasseln was coined by the Transylvanian Saxons. By the end of the Second World War, the Germans represented the absolute, until the revolution of 1989, the relative majority of the village population. After that, most Germans emigrated. By influx of Romanians and especially Roma, however, the population remained relatively stable.

In the overall community Laslea designated in 2002 by then 3203 inhabitants in 2081 as Romanians, 765 as Roma, 312 German, 43 as Hungary or Csángós, as a Russian or Lipovans and one as Ukrainians.

In the village itself Laslea lived in 2002 a total of 1456 people, of which 1016 Romanians, 385 Roma, 34 German (2% ), 19 Hungarians and two other nationalities.

Traffic

Laslea is located about 1.5 km south of the National Road 14 between Medias and Sighisoara, on several occasions, buses daily.

The nearest train station ( Luna ) is located about four kilometers along the railway line Teiuş - Braşov.

Attractions

From the otherwise worn fortified church bell tower has been preserved because of the Tower of the new, mid-19th century built church collapsed before its completion.

Special

In Laslea since 1992 exists the Spitalul Luke ( Luke's Hospital), which consists of a retirement home and a surgical outpatient clinic. It is used by several co - financed organizations in Germany, such as the " Benevolent Society for the Lukas Hospital in Laslea, Romania eV" in Neuendettelsau - mostly church.
