Lat

Lat ( * 1951 in Kota Bahru, Malaysia ), whose real name is Mohamad Nor bin Khalid, is the most famous Malaysian artist and caricaturist.

Life and work

Lat grew up in modest circumstances in a typical Malay kampong ( village hut stake ) in Northern Malaysia ( Perak state ) on. As a student in Ipoh, he felt encouraged by his teacher that he has the talent for drawing. Even his classmates urged him repeatedly to draw comic stories for them. So he decided in 1964 at the age of 13 years to secure a publisher in Penang history " Tiga Sekawan ". This they published, thus giving the go-ahead for lats career as a famous Malaysian cartoonist.

In 1974, the New Straits Times decided to employ a cartoonist for the first time in its history. Since then draws Lat three times per week for the New Straits Times Scenes from the Malaysian life.
