Latorica in Mukachevo

The Latorica (Ukrainian Латориця / Latoryzja; Latorca Hungarian ) is a river in Western Ukraine ( Transcarpathian Oblast ) and the Eastern Slovakia in the catchment area of the Tisza.

It rises near the village Latirka in Rajon Volovets in the Carpathians, flows in a southerly direction to the city Svalyava further in southwestern direction Mukachevo and from there to the Ukrainian- Slovak border at Solomonovo and Ptrukša in some form of channeled towards the west. On Slovak territory he continues to flow through the East Slovak Lowland south of Veľké Kapušany and north of the city Kráľovský Chlmec around until the junction of the river Ondava, previously still leads the Laborec in it. From the confluence with the Ondava he called Bodrog and finally flows into in Tokaj in Hungary in the Tisza.

The total length of the river is 188 km ( other counting methods also speak of 204 kilometers ) of which 156.6 km (83% ) in Ukraine and 31.4 km ( 17%) in Slovakia are. The total catchment area is 3130 km ², 94 % of this area are located in Ukraine. In the city Chop the river has a flow rate of 37 m³ / s, at the confluence with the Ondava there are 86.8 m³ / s

On the Slovak side of the river basin is protected by the 231.98 km ² nature reserve Latorica.
