LaToya Monique Thomas ( born July 6, 1981 in Greenville, Mississippi, United States) is a professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx in the Women's National Basketball Association.
LaToya Thomas played until 2003 for the Lady Bulldogs, the women's basketball team at the Mississippi State University. Thomas scored during their time at Mississippi State University 2,981 points for the Lady Bulldogs, no player and players have managed until now to achieve more points for Mississippi State University. Furthermore, it still holds Lady Bulldogs records in rebounds, blocks, throws attempted, recycled throws, free throws attempted and recovered free throws.
Due to their strong performances at the College Thomas was selected in the WNBA Draft in 2003 by the Cleveland Rockers in the first place. Thomas could play for Rockers only in the 2003 season, as the Rockers were released after this season. Thus, a dispersal draft was held in front of the WNBA Draft in 2004, where the player were divided by the Rockers on the remaining teams in the WNBA. In this draft, she was selected to the third place overall by the San Antonio Silver Stars. Thomas played a good first season in 2004 for the Silver Stars. In the 2005 season they could not get as much playing time and was only in 12 of 21 games in the starting lineup. In the 2006 season she finally stood in any game even more in the starting lineup of the Silver Stars. In the 2007 season they first played for the Los Angeles Sparks. This season she worked with 2.3 rebounds, 7.7 points and 18 minutes of playing time per game, each a new personal negative record. On 6 February 2008, Thomas was selected in the expansion draft by the Atlanta Dream. On the same day Thomas was transferred together with a second-round pick ( 18th overall pick ) to the Detroit Shock for Ivory Latta. After Thomas graduated seven games in the 2008 season for the Shock, she was transferred on 22 June 2008 on the Minnesota Lynx for Eshaya Murphy.
