Lattara

Latara (also Lattara ) is an ancient port city about five kilometers southeast of Montpellier. The area of the former city corresponds to today's Lattes.

History

The settlement is about the 6th century BC to the 2nd century AD dated and shows an Etruscan, Greek and Roman phase. It was mentioned both by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia ( Volume IX, 9 and Volume IX, 29-32 ) as well as by the Roman geographer Pomponius Mela in his De Chorographia (II, 80). In addition, there are two inscriptions (of Saint- Sauveur and Maguelone a Villeneuve- les -Maguelone (Herault ) ), where Latara is called.

Excavations

Since 1983 the area has been closely studied. To this end, the French state bought an approximately 9 hectare area and taught here a research and training center for archeology in. Attached is the Henry Prades Museum, showing also those from across the region in addition to the findings from Latara.

During three tours of the Institute of Geophysics and Meteorology, Technical University of Braunschweig, 1987, 1991 and 1992, large parts of the area were measured using geoelectric and geomagnetic methods.
