Lauderdale County (Alabama)

The Lauderdale County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama. In 2010, the County had 92 709 inhabitants and a population density of 51 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Florence, named after the Italian hometown of Florence urban planner and architect Ferdinand Sannoner. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest corner of Alabama on the right bank of the Tennessee River, which forms the border with Mississippi to the west. In the north it is bordered by Tennessee. History

Lauderdale County was formed on February 6, 1818. It was named after Colonel James Lauderdale from Tennessee, who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Talladega on 23 December 1814.
