Laundry Service ( Laundry ) is the first English-language album of Shakira. It was released on 13 November 2001, sold a total of 13 million copies and was one of the biggest selling albums in 2002 The album was released in two other versions, Laundry Service. Washed & Dried and in a Spanish version as Servicio de Lavanderia.

Style

The dominant style of the album is rock. When recording the album with live musicians was cooperating with Terry Manning, who had also worked with AC / DC, Lenny Kravitz and Led Zeppelin. Shakira's vocal performance is convincing and her singing style is compared to that of Alanis Morissette. In some pieces, the influence of their origin comes to light, so that you can hear in Whenever, Wherever a pan flute, in Objection ( Tango) a bandoneon and Eyes Like Yours Samba influences.

Texts

Shakira wrote the lyrics for the album alone. In order to be able to write in English, they had to buy dictionaries, reading English poetry and writers such as Walt Whitman and Leonard Cohen. In the songs she deals with everyday things. So act Ready For The Good Times by a cockroach and Poem To A Horse of a dispute with a stoned friend. In addition, she explores in her texts with love as in Rules and The One. Furthermore, she describes her love for the city of Madrid with the song Te Dejo Madrid.

The last two items are the Spanish versions of Objection ( Tango) and Whenever, Wherever and show their linguistic background on.
