Laura La Plante

Laura La Plante ( born November 1, 1904 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA; † 14 October 1996 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress.

Life

Laura La Plante began her career at age 15 as an extra and quickly became popular. Already at 20 she was the biggest star of Universal Studios and was mostly used as the girl next door in comedies. In 1923 she became one of the WAMPAS baby stars of the year, a selection of actresses, which you most likely zutraute the ascent to the real star. Her most famous roles was La Plante in the period of transition from silent to sound film. In the comedy The Cat and the Canary, she appeared in 1927 as a persecuted innocent in a haunted house, in the opulent film version of Show Boat from 1929 she had the part of Magnolia. 1930 ended the actress her contract with the studio and went to England, where she made a number of so-called quota quickies, program films cheaply produced. From 1934 until his death in 1985 she was married to the film producer Irving Asher. Together they had two children. Previously, she had been married in the years 1926-1934 with the director William A. Seiter.

Laura La Plante died in 1996 in a nursing home for people from the film industry, in Woodland Hills, California.
