Laura van der Heijden began six years ago with the Handball, initially by the LHV Leusden. Later she played at Venus Nieuwegein and the VOC Amsterdam, with whom she won the Dutch championship in 2009 and 2010 the Dutch Cup. Since the season 2010/ 11, the 1.73 meter tall backcourt player plays in the German Bundesliga with VfL Oldenburg. With Oldenburg in 2012 she won the DHB Cup. From the summer of 2014, it plays in the Danish first division club Team Esbjerg.
For the Dutch national team van der Heijden previously denied 107 countries games in which they scored 342 goals. She participated in the 2011 World Championships and 2013. Before she reached the 5th place in the U -20 World Cup 2010 in South Korea.
