Lauren Holiday

Lauren Nicole Holiday ( born September 30, 1987 in Indianapolis, Indiana as Lauren Nicole Cheney ) is an American soccer player. She plays for FC Kansas City and for the U.S. national team.

Life and career

Holiday was born with a heart defect, operating with three Jahrem open heart. Since doctors advised the parents that they should play sports, to strengthen the heart, they started early with football and basketball and was even before her sixth birthday, an outstanding football player. From the sixth to twelfth year she played in boys' teams and then moved to Carmel United Heat. Both during her time at the Ben Davis High School as well as at UCLA, she received several awards and was one of the outstanding goalscorers who shot several game-winning goals. In 2009, she played for the Pali Blues in W- League, since 2010 in the WPS for the Boston Breakers.

Holiday went through several U.S. youth teams and was 17 years old in the squad, who finished at the U-19 World Cup of Women in Thailand in 2004 to third place, where it was used in all six matches and scored two goals. In 2005, she became the youngest squad member with the U -21 Nordic Cup, and scored 2 goals in 4 games. In 2006 she won the CONCACAF U -20 Women's Championship in 2006, where she scored four goals, including the winning goal in the final against Canada a 3-2 victory. She belonged to the U-20 team that finished fourth at the U- 20 World Cup in Russia after they each lost both the semifinals and in the 3rd place match on penalties. They came in four games for use, but missed the semi-finals in a penalty shootout the last penalty.

At the Pan American Games in 2007, it reached the U-20 team the final, but lost 0-4 against the Brazilian senior team, including with Marta.

Holiday in 2005 for the first time invited to the training of the senior team and made her first senior international match at age 19 on 26 January 2007 in a 0-0 draw against Germany in the framework of the four-nation tournament, which won the United States. The first international goal they scored 14 April 2007 against Mexico, when her 88 minutes into the goal succeeded to the 5-0 final score.

It belonged to the squad of the U.S. for the World Cup 2011 in Germany. In the first World Cup match against North Korea scored the 1-0 opener after a cross from Abby Wambach. Also in the other group matches, quarter- final against Brazil and in the semifinal against France, she was used. Against France, they scored in the ninth minute the 1-0 lead and after the 3-1 win they reached the final against Japan. This won the Japanese women 3-1 in a penalty shootout after the score 2-2 after extra time. Holiday had already in the 8th minute, the chance to make it 1-0, but he fired just over. For the second half, she has been replaced.

Holiday was in the squad for the Olympic football tournament in London, and was used in all six games. In the final against Japan on 9 August 2012, she won for the second time the gold medal.

In the 2013 season she played in the newly established National Women 's Soccer League, the highest American professional league in women's soccer for the FC Kansas City.

Holiday married on July 7, 2013, professional basketball player Jrue Holiday and took his surname.
