Laurenburg

Lauren Castle is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It lies in the valley of the Lahn and belongs to the municipality of Diez. Lauren Castle is a nationally recognized tourist.

History

The Lauren Castle castle is first mentioned in 1093. Its builder was probably the Official Count Dudo (* 1060, † around 1123) that is listed in the foundation charter of the abbey Laach as Comes de Lurenburch fifth and progenitor of the counts of Nassau was. With his wife Anastasia von Arnstein Dudo had the sons Arnold and Ruprecht. Dudo received from the diocese of Worms, the area around Nassau fief, where he and his sons from 1224 built a new castle, after which their descendants from 1159 called Counts of Nassau. In the Thirty Years ' War the castle was destroyed and has since become a ruin.

On the Lauren castle afterwards officiated Nassau Burgmannen who continue " by Lauren Castle " called themselves. Of these, among others, the Loener and the bird are known. 1795 temporarily occupied by the French, Lauren castle was in 1806 part of the Duchy of Nassau, which was annexed in 1866 by Prussia. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

The keep of the castle is again inhabited today and houses a militaria museum.

Viticulture was first mentioned in records in 1445 with a wine garden at the pigeon house of Count Philip the Elder of Katzenelenbogen under the castle.

Religion

Lauren castle is the Roman Catholic parish of St. Boniface assigned in Holzappel and heard her to the pastoral space Diez, which in turn the district Limburg is incorporated in the diocese of Limburg.

On the Protestant side of the place of the parish Holzappel the dean's office of the provost Diez South Nassau in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau ( EKHN ) is a member.

Parish council

The local council in Lauren castle consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
