Laurence Harvey

Laurence Harvey ( born October 1, 1928 in Joniškis, Lithuania, † November 25, 1973 in London ) was a Lithuanian- British actor.

Life

Harvey was born in Lithuania as Laruschka Mischa Skikne. At the age of five his family moved to South Africa where he spent most of his youth. In 1946 he came to London, where he first gained experience as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art stage experience, and finally in 1948 launched a successful film career. His stage name Laurence Harvey, he chose it based on the Harvey Nichols Group. He achieved international fame was Renato Castellani's award-winning adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet (1954 ) alongside Susan Shentall known. His breakthrough came in 1959 with the male lead in the way up next to Simone Signoret. Harvey was nominated for this role as the first Lithuanian actor in film history for an Oscar for her role Signoret received the coveted trophy.

The following year he played the male lead role in Butterfield 8 next to Elizabeth Taylor, who was awarded an Oscar for Best Actress. In the same year, he starred in John Wayne's epic Alamo, the second starring role as Colonel William Travis. He starred alongside Frank Sinatra in The Manchurian Candidate ( The Manchurian Candidate ), with Peter Sellers in The Magic Christian, as well as the murderous chess player Emmet Clayton, alongside Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo in the same crime series. Past roles he played in The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm Wilhelm Grimm as well as the Roman prefect Cethegus in the Felix Dahn adaptation Struggle for Rome (1968 ) and the continued battle for Rome II - The Betrayal. He also led sometimes directing, so even if his latest film Welcome to Arrow Beach.

Laurence Harvey was married three times, including with the spectacle colleagues Margaret Leighton (1957-1961) and Joan Perry ( 1968-1972 ). On December 31, 1972, he married the model Paulene Stone; Mother of his daughter Domino Harvey ( 1969-2005 ). Prior to his first marriage he was with more than 20 years older actress Hermione Baddeley ( 1906-1986 ) dating.

Harvey died on 25 November 1973 at the age of only 45 years in London from stomach cancer.
