Laurence Wild

Laurence Wild ( born May 1, 1890 in Wilber, Saline County, Nebraska, † May 26, 1971 in Coronado, California ) was an American naval officer. Between 1940 and 1942 he was military governor of American Samoa.

Career

In 1913 Laurence Wild graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). He then served as an officer in the United States Navy. He brought it to the end of his career up to the Captain. During his studies, he was also a successful college basketball player and coach. During his military career, he served as communications officer for a submarine unit ( Submarin Squadron 11).

Between August 8, 1940 and June 5, 1942 Wild was the successor of Edward Hanson and Jesse Wallace, who had managed the office for ten days, Governor of American Samoa. He shared between 17 January and 25 April 1942, Henry Louis Larsen this function. This led to conflict between the two men. Although Larsen held the higher rank, but Wild was longer in office and Larsen was superior. It is worth mentioning that he had to create an airfield in 1941.
