Laurent Brochard

Laurent Brochard ( born March 26, 1968 in Le Mans ) is a former French cyclist.

Career

Brochard 1992 Professional and is an all-rounder. He can climb very well, holds with a mass sprint and also makes time trial not a bad figure. In his early years, he won a victory at the Tour du Haut -Var, one at the Limousin tour, as well as stage wins there and in the Mediterranean cruise.

1997 Brochard had his breakthrough. He won two stages at the prestigious Midi Libre and was successful on the 9th stage of the 1997 Tour de France from Pau to Loudenvielle by the French Pyrenees on July 14. Since July 14, the French national holiday, a victory at this stage is considered to be prestigious. In the same year he celebrated probably the biggest success of his career when he became world champion in San Sebastián.

In 1999, he then reported back with a stage win for the small team Jean Delatour at the Vuelta a España and won to 2002 other minor races. In 2003 he then moved to AG2R Prévoyance. From 2005 he drove for the team Bouygues Télécom and reaped in the same year for the third time after 2001 and 2003, the Paris- Camembert. In 2008, he finished at the age of 39 years of his career, after he got a contract more in 2009.

Doping

After the victory Brochards at the World Championships 1997 he tested positive for the counting to doping agents anesthetic lidocaine. Since he could get a medical certificate, but he was not found guilty. It was said that Brochard have suffered from disc problems and take the remedy for that reason. The masseur Willy Voet Festina, which triggered the Festina scandal, claiming the certificate had been created only about two weeks after the positive doping test in order to avoid a scandal. This is done directly by the UCI and the FFC. Voet have his own words Brochard a Spanish cortisone preparation for irregular performance enhancement administered ( doping), in which, however, lidocaine was included. What Voet claims here would have as a full-blown scandal of classified " top ". The statements Voets during the Festina affair in any case have all come true.

In the rainbow jersey Brochard finally won a stage in the Midi Libre, before he got into it in 1998 at the Tour de France in the Festina affair. He confessed to EPO doping and was banned by the UCI. The ominous incidents in the 1997 World Series were not addressed.
