The Azores Canary Islands laurel or laurel (Laurus azorica, Syn: Persea azorica ) is a species of the laurel family ( Lauraceae ).
Features
The Azores laurel grows as a evergreen tree or shrub and can reach heights of growth 15 to 25 meters. The young leaves are hand slightly tomentose. Full-grown leaves are in contrast to True laurel (Laurus nobilis) only slightly aromatic. The leaf margin is wavy smooth or weak. Along the midrib are in most axils of lateral veins small glands ( Domatien ) that characterize this type safe. The leaves have a length of 12 to 15 centimeters and a width of 4 to 5 centimeters.
The flowering period extends from February to May The Azores laurel is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ).
Dissemination
The Azores laurel is native to all the Azores islands, the Canary Islands, Madeira and Morocco. The Azores laurel, together with other species of the laurel family the main component of the laurel forests.
