The Lauterach is a right tributary of the Vils in the Upper Palatinate.

Course

It rises in Lauterhofen in the Franconian Alps from two sources (volume up and brick wells). Next the Lauterach flows through the Upper Palatinate Jura and flows Schmidmühlen in the Vils.

In the municipality of High Castle and Schmidmühlen the Lauterachtal runs along the northern boundary of the training area Hohenfels, where it forms the natural border of the nature park deer forest.
