Geographical location

Lauter is 400 to 700 meters above sea level in the Hoher Vogelsberg.

Neighboring communities

Lauter is bordered to the north by the municipality Schwalmtal, in the east on the town of Lauterbach, in the south on the town Herb Stein, and in the west on the town of Ulrich Stein and the community Feldatal.

History

On December 31, 1971, the municipality Lauter was newly formed by the merger of the municipalities Eichelhain, Eichenrod, Engelrod, Hörgenau and Meiches. On February 1, 1972 Dirlammen and Hopfmannsfeld were added.

On 1 February 1980, the name of the village was changed officially in Lauter ( Vogelsberg ).

Coat of arms

The main colors of black and gold refer to the former local government of Riedesel Barons Eisenbach. In the agricultural character of the community cartwheel suggests (7 districts =) with its seven spokes. Finally, the Türkenbundlilie symbolized from the arms of the Vogelsberg circle the membership of the church in this county. The diagonal wavy line indicates the volume, which gave its name to the community.
