Lautten Compagney

The Lautten Compagney is a renowned baroque music ensemble based in Berlin. In her hometown Lautten Compagney performs regularly in the Holy Cross Church and the Church of Gethsemane and on the Museum Island. The ensemble performs annually in about 60 - to 80 concerts and stage productions. Periodically Lautten Compagney a guest at renowned festivals and prestigious theaters in Germany and other European countries. Guest performances in the Netherlands and Switzerland, Austria, England, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, New Zealand and 2011 for the first time to China. The Lautten Compagney was and is a frequent guest of the Dresden Music Festival and the Halle Handel Festival. The artistic director Wolfgang Katschner is the winner of both festivals.

Foundation

The Lautten Compagney was founded in 1984 by Wolfgang Katschner and Hans-Werner Apel in Berlin as Lautenduo. At this time studied the two founders of the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" classical guitar.

Cast and Partners

The Lautten Compagney plays in a very flexible instrumentation. You make music today, especially in various chamber music ensembles up to the baroque opera orchestra. A regular collaboration combines the ensemble with the Sing- Akademie zu Berlin and the dance ensemble of Sasha Waltz & Guests and Heike Hennig & Co. Since 2002, the Lautten Compagney works with the associated vocal ensemble Capella Angelica together.

The Friends of the ensemble constituted itself as the Berlin Society for the Promotion of Early Music Con voce e Tiorba and also supports beyond Berlin -impact projects.

Repertoire

The repertoire spans the time of the early Baroque around 1600 to the romantic music of Mendelssohn, occupations vary accordingly and diverse. The focus is on German, Italian and English compositions. The program of the ensemble include both instrumental as vocal works. The latter range from songs and aria programs with renowned soloists up to opera and oratorio performances.

As a music historian and researcher, the artistic director Wolfgang Katschner always brings interesting, almost forgotten works for reissue. For the first time appeared on CD fed music by GB Bononcini, B. Castaldi, G. Ph. Krieger, M. Locke and B. Galuppi. In 2008, the Lautten Compagney designed together with the Sing- Akademie zu Berlin, a highly regarded concert with works of anonymous masters.

Awards

The Lautten Compagney has won the ECHO Klassik 2010 in the category Ensemble - Early Music.

2012 the ensemble received the Rheingau Music Prize virtue of its creative concepts and the musical bridge between baroque and contemporary music.
