Location

The community is bounded by Nava and Bimenes in the north, to the west of San Martín del Rey Aurelio and Mieres Boal, east of Piloña and Sobrescobio in the south of Aller

To the Middle Ages

As almost everywhere in Asturias confirm findings from the Bronze Age, the early settlement of the region. Several hill forts from the Iron Age (Castro de El Cercu, El prau Castiello and La Corona in Boroñes ) can still be seen today. The Romans had built here a major road that ran along the river Rio Navia. There are still bridges which are used to today.

Today

The name " Flaviana " first appeared in 1115 in documents of the monastery " San Vicente de Oviedo " on where zoning was laid down. In the 18th century, the region has made news again during the Spanish War of Independence and the Carlistenaufstände.

Geography

Land

The predominantly of limestone, shale and sandstone substrate with the Peña Mea ( 1,560 m), la Triguera ( 1,291 m), la Xamoca ( 1,288 m ) and the Tres Concejos ( 1,097 m), the largest surveys are typical for this region.

Waters

The municipality is crossed by the River Navia. The rivers Xerra Rio, Rio la Pontona, Rio tisana, Rio Soto, El Raigusu, Rio Villoria and Rimontán contribute to the impressive landscape formation.

Climate

As in many parts of Asturias there by proximity to the Gulf Stream here an almost Mediterranean climate with warm dry summers but cold winters ago, in the fall it comes sometimes to relatively strong storms.

Policy

Since January 2009, called the mayor Adrián Rodríguez Barbón. He is a member of the largest party ( PSOE) of the Municipal Council. The 17 seats of the council are elected every 4 years, and are assigned as follows:

Economy

As in many parts of Asturias agriculture is a dwindling source of income here. The forestry sector is currently still has the largest share here. Because of its location on the Rio Navia, the tourism industry is conceived especially for nature lovers, canoeists and anglers very strong in growth. Trade and production takes place only in medium-sized companies.
