Lavoslav Schwarz

Lavoslav Black (* 1837 in Zagreb, † 1906 ) was a Croatian- Jewish merchant and a historically significant figure of the Jewish Community of Zagreb.

Life

Lavoslav Black was the son of a Jewish merchant named Solomon or Saul in 1837 in the Croatian- Slavonian capital Zagreb to the world.

Through all his life to Lavoslav Black distinguished particularly by the charity. He supported and founded in Zagreb Jewish and non-Jewish social institutions. On his initiative were awarded for students of public universities by the city of Zagreb, as well as by the Jewish Community of Zagreb scholarships. For the Jewish community in Zagreb the establishment of the first Jewish home for the elderly in Zagreb is significant. The nursing home was opened in 1910 and bears the name "Dom Lavoslav Black ".

Lavoslav Black died in 1906 at the age of 69 years in Zagreb.
