Lawn Hill is the eroded remnant of an impact crater in Queensland (Australia). The structure is characterized by a 18 km wide ring of limestone mountains. The cause of the circular structure was unknown until 1987 and was first identified by the discovery of radiation cones and shocked quartz as impact structure. The rock is eroded and it is believed that the crater originally had about 20 km in diameter. The age of the crater is controversial, with some evidence that the impact took place before about 515 million years ago.

Based on the theory that the crater was filled shortly after its emergence from the sea, it could be that the crater offered a protected and unique environment for primitive life. It could thus be a significant analogy to the infilled with sediments craters on Mars.
