Lawrence County (Mississippi)

The Lawrence County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Monticello.

The Lawrence County was formed on December 22, 1814 from parts of Marion County. It was named after James Lawrence (1781-1813), a naval officer who with the saying was " Do not give up the ship " in the British -American War of 1812, after he had been mortally wounded, known.
